What makes SAAS different from other statistics/data science organizations?
Does SAAS have a General Membership program?
No, we do not. This is because we believe that a General Membership program implicitly creates a hierarchy within the club, with committee members being “above” general members. We want every member to feel equally valued and active in the club.
Do I need experience to join?
We have committees for students of all experience levels! For example, the Data Foundations committee caters towards those with little/no experience, while the Data Consulting committee is best suited for those that have completed projects that involve data analysis.
The amount of experience you need depends on the specific committee you are applying to.
What is the time commitment?
The time commitment for each committee is at least 8-10 hours per week. The committee descriptions document contains more information on the time commitment expected for each committee!
What’s the difference between the Data Consulting and Data Mentorship committees?
The Data Mentorship committee is more guided, as members participate in workshops taught by the directors and complete assignments to apply what they learned in workshops. The client project for Data Mentorship doesn’t start until halfway through the semester. In contrast, the primary focus of the Data Consulting teams for the semester is completing the client project.
